Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has surpassed two million passengers in a single month for the first time. In May, 2,070,599 travellers passed through the terminal, an increase of 11.9% on the same month in 2025. The record forms part of sustained growth across the Valencian Community’s airports.

International traffic at Alicante-Elche reached 1,827,523 passengers, up 12.5%, while domestic traffic rose 7.6% to 241,703. The United Kingdom remained the largest market, with around 692,000 passengers, followed by the Netherlands and Germany with about 125,000 each, and Poland with 115,000. Aircraft movements at the airport climbed 12.3% to 13,131 in May.

Valencia Airport also reported record May figures, handling 1,178,277 passengers, an 11.8% rise year on year. The airport operated 8,940 flights, up 7.3% compared with May 2025.

Marián Cano, the regional minister for Industry, Tourism, Innovation and Trade, said the figures reflect the strength of the tourism sector but warned that airport infrastructure must keep pace with demand. She has called on central government and airport operator Aena to ensure investment and planning match the strategic importance of the region’s airports to the economy.
