A 50-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a balcony collapsed at a tourist complex in La Manga del Mar Menor, in the municipality of Cartagena.
Emergency services received several calls to the 1-1-2 emergency number at 7.37pm on Saturday reporting that a balcony had fallen from the ninth floor of the building into the hotel’s swimming pool area. Callers said one person had been injured in the incident.
Civil Protection volunteers, firefighters from Cartagena City Council’s Fire and Rescue Service, Local Police and a Mobile Emergency Unit from the 061 health service attended the scene. A doctor confirmed that the injured man, aged around 50, was transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca Clinical Hospital, with the emergency department informed in advance of his arrival.
Fire crews remained at the complex to inspect the structure, make the area safe and cordon off the affected zone while checks were carried out.
