A 77-year-old man has died while swimming at Rihuete Beach in Mazarrón, in the Region of Murcia.
The Murcia Emergency Coordination Centre received a call at 13:07 on Sunday reporting that a man had been pulled from the water unconscious. Bystanders had begun cardiopulmonary resuscitation before emergency crews arrived.
Civil Protection, Local Police and Judicial Police officers attended alongside an ambulance from the 061 Emergency and Health Service. Despite continued resuscitation efforts, a doctor confirmed the man’s death at the scene.
A 69-year-old woman was also treated by paramedics for an anxiety attack. An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is under way.
