An 81-year-old man who went missing in Pilar de la Horadada has been found safe after a large-scale search operation involving several emergency services.

The man, a resident at a local care home who suffers from Alzheimer’s and other health conditions, was reported missing at 3.15pm on Saturday 6 June. The Local Police received the alert from the Civil Guard and immediately launched a coordinated search operation alongside Civil Protection. Neighbouring Local Police forces also assisted.

The search continued throughout Saturday and was reinforced on Sunday with aerial support. Local company Abejorros Horadada provided a drone to help search several areas of the municipality.

Late on Sunday 7 June, officers located the man after a member of the public reported someone lying on an embankment beside the N-332. He was found conscious and was rescued with the help of the Civil Guard, Civil Protection and health services before being taken by ambulance to hospital. The Councillor for Public Safety, Marina Sáez, thanked residents and all services involved, saying public cooperation had been decisive.
