Cartagena City Council has launched its new electric bike hire service, bringing one hundred and twenty bikes into operation across the municipality.
The scheme was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, when Mayor Noelia Arroyo, Port Authority president Pedro Pablo Hernández and Sustainable City councillor Cristina Mora arrived at the launch event on the new bikes. The ceremony marked the return of the public hire system after more than six years without the service.
The council has confirmed that the current fleet of 120 bikes is only the first phase. It plans to increase the total to 300 units before the end of the month, extending availability across Cartagena, La Manga and Cabo de Palos.
Local officials say the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to promote sustainable mobility, reduce traffic congestion and encourage environmentally friendly transport options throughout the area.
