The Guardia Civil has arrested five people after dismantling a travelling criminal group accused of distraction thefts along the south-east coast. The operation, known as ‘Conosur’, has focused on offences in Murcia, Alicante and Málaga.

Investigators say the group specialised in stealing large sums of cash from individuals and businesses. They allegedly monitored bank customers and company routines before striking, sometimes puncturing vehicle tyres or creating distractions to seize money. Several thefts of more than 30,000 euros from companies in Alicante province have been linked to the group.

Officers believe the suspects were highly mobile, using false identities, hire cars and short-term holiday lets to avoid detection. Members of the group were also wanted by police and judicial authorities for other alleged offences.

The five suspects were arrested simultaneously in Los Alcázares, San Javier and the city of Alicante, with support from the National Police. Around fifteen offences have been clarified so far, and the investigation remains ongoing.
