Torrevieja Council has provisionally approved direct grants worth 128,000 euros for traders and business owners at the Municipal Market, known as La Plasa. The funding is intended to offset the economic impact caused by ongoing renovation and modernisation works at the site.

Eight small businesses, micro-companies and self-employed traders operating within the market will benefit. Two traders will each receive 22,000 euros, while six others will be awarded 14,000 euros, in line with the criteria set out in the scheme’s regulations.

The initiative forms part of the council’s wider strategy to support local commerce and ensure business continuity during the comprehensive refurbishment of one of Torrevieja’s most emblematic commercial spaces. The grants will be paid by bank transfer, with 50% of the awarded amount provided in advance to improve immediate cash flow.

Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality, Rosario Martínez Chazarra, said the transformation of La Plasa must be accompanied by real support for traders. She added that the historic remodelling project aims to modernise the market while protecting the families and jobs that have sustained economic and social life in the town centre for decades.
