Thirty-one tourism businesses and services in Torrevieja have received the SICTED quality distinction at a ceremony held at the town’s Tourism Centre. The event was presided over by Mayor Eduardo Dolón, the Councillor for Tourism, Commerce and Hospitality, Rosario Martínez, and the Director General for Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana, Israel Martínez Fernández.

During the event, officials presented an updated methodology for the Integral System for Tourism Quality in Destinations. The new model, promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, redefines SICTED as “Sustainability, Intelligence and Tourism Quality in the Destination Ecosystem”. It places greater emphasis on economic, social and environmental sustainability, as well as technological innovation and competitiveness.

The revised system also introduces a new digital management platform designed to streamline implementation and reduce bureaucracy for both businesses and public authorities. Torrevieja joined SICTED in 2014, and training and assessment costs are covered by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, meaning participating companies face no direct charges.

The municipality now has 67 distinguished businesses and 103 entities enrolled in the programme, spanning 19 of the 36 professional categories included in SICTED. Across Spain there are 284 SICTED destinations, with the Valencian Community ranking second nationally, boasting 1,563 recognised tourism services.
