Murcia City Council has unveiled plans to install 1,330 new security cameras at 267 points across the municipality, quadrupling the existing network of 549 devices. The scheme forms part of the ‘Murcia Segura’ project, aimed at strengthening crime prevention and improving police coordination.

The new cameras will be connected to the Local Police Coordination Centre, allowing real-time monitoring 24 hours a day. Equipped with infrared vision, they will operate in all visibility conditions, helping officers respond more quickly to incidents and increasing deterrence against vandalism and crime.

Locations have been agreed jointly by Local Police and municipal and district board presidents, taking into account the needs of each area. On average, each of the 267 points will have five cameras, although busier districts such as El Carmen and El Palmar will have up to 12 points, while areas including La Flota-Vista Alegre, Espinardo, and Santiago y Zaraíche will have between 5 and 10.

Acting Mayor Rebeca Pérez said the plan is part of a broader strategy to modernise security, which also includes a new Integrated Security Centre in El Palmar, mobile police stations, body-worn cameras for officers, new vehicles, and strengthened police staffing and communications systems.
