A large protest has been held in Torrevieja calling for justice for Nala, a cat that was beaten to death in a street attack. The demonstration took place on Sunday in Calle Clavel, close to the home of the man accused of the killing.

The suspect was arrested after the incident in late April in the San Roque area. He later appeared before a judge and was released on bail while facing charges of animal cruelty and violence against a woman, as the animal belonged to his former partner. Footage of the attack circulated widely online, prompting public outrage.

The protest was organised by PACMA, Proyecto CES Torrevieja and other animal welfare groups. It lasted more than an hour and drew a significant turnout, including activists from nearby towns. At one point, demonstrators moved towards a nearby street, where police intervened to prevent traffic disruption and set up a security cordon.

Up to twelve officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil were deployed to maintain order. Organisers also urged supporters to attend a separate upcoming court hearing in another animal cruelty case in Torrevieja.
