The La Mata and Torrelamata Residents’ Association has submitted a detailed proposal to Torrevieja Council aimed at improving quality of life and strengthening the district’s historic and cultural identity. The document sets out measures focused on urban planning, mobility, sustainability and local economic development.

Among the headline proposals is the enhancement of the Roman Port area, including the possible creation of a daytime marina for small boats, alongside historical signage and landscape integration. The association also wants improvements to public spaces such as Plaza Doña Perfecta, with rehabilitation work and clearer regulations on its use.

Urban measures include the reurbanisation of Virgen del Carmen and Calle Mayor, with better accessibility, lighting, tree planting and pedestrian safety. The plan also promotes sustainable tourism, suggesting an eco-friendly winery and wine museum, QR codes at tourist points and the goal of securing a second Blue Flag for La Mata Norte beach.

Further proposals cover electric vehicle charging points, tree replacement schemes, improved park-and-ride facilities and the establishment of a permanent Local Police post. Residents say the overall aim is to support balanced, sustainable growth that meets the needs of both locals and visitors.
