An 18-year-old man has died and a 56-year-old has been injured following a collision between two motorbikes in the Torremendo district of Orihuela, in Alicante province.

The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre said it received the alert at 12:56 pm on Sunday. An air ambulance, a SAMU unit and a basic life support ambulance were sent to the scene. The 18-year-old rider died at the scene, while the 56-year-old man was transferred to Alicante General Hospital.

The crash happened on a stretch of road connected to the CV-950, an area that has seen a high number of serious accidents in recent years, including fatal incidents. The route is popular with tourists and foreign residents in the Vega Baja area.

In 2022, the regional government installed speed reduction measures along the dam section of the road and added parking areas near reservoir viewpoints, after reports of informal motorcycle racing. Just over a year ago, another young motorcyclist died in a crash with a car on the same stretch.
