A troubling incident in San Miguel de Salinas has highlighted the dangers associated with irresponsible electric scooter use. Local police apprehended a minor who was travelling at seventy kilometres per hour, well above the legal limit of twenty-five kilometres per hour. The juvenile reportedly fled from authorities, raising serious concerns about both road safety and compliance with traffic regulations governing personal mobility vehicles.
The minor was also riding without a helmet, contravening safety regulations that apply to electric scooter users. The authorities warn that these vehicles, which are intended for urban commuting, pose significant risks when misused. Moreover, current legislation prohibits individuals under the age of fifteen from riding electric scooters. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for awareness regarding the safe use of electric scooters, especially given their rise in popularity over recent years.
Traffic patrols have stressed that violations of traffic regulations endanger not only the riders but also other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. As such, they are urging families and young riders to act responsibly to ensure their safety and avoid penalties. The local police reiterated via social media, “Safety is everyone’s responsibility,” emphasising the importance of road education and respect for laws to prevent accidents.
In light of this event, authorities are calling for increased awareness among young people regarding the safe and appropriate use of electric scooters, reminding them that riding outside of established regulations is not only illegal but also hazardous. The call for responsibility aims to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
