Uber has officially launched Uber Green in Murcia, introducing a service allowing users to travel in one hundred percent electric vehicles. This launch positions Murcia as the third city in Spain to have this eco-friendly transport option, following the capital, Madrid, and Barcelona. Uber Green will be offered at the same price as the company’s popular UberX service, operational in the city since last October.

The company has highlighted the importance of this service amidst rising environmental concerns and the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions. Currently, Uber Green is available in over one hundred twenty cities across the globe. In Madrid, where the service started in two thousand twenty-two, the number of electric vehicles has increased eightfold since its launch.

Uber is keen to expand its commitment to reducing emissions, with plans to have more than one thousand electric vehicles operating through their app by the end of the year. This launch will complement existing services in Murcia that include traditional taxis, UberX, car rentals via Uber Rent, and train ticket reservations.

Felipe Fernández Aramburu, the Director of Uber in Spain and Portugal, emphasised the company’s role in the fight against climate change, stating the launch is a significant step towards transforming Uber into a zero-emissions platform. He expressed a desire to work closely with public institutions to provide reliable, safe, and sustainable mobility options for both residents and visitors in Murcia.
