A fire erupted along the Tajo-Segura transfer channel in Orihuela Costa on Sunday afternoon, raising concerns among local residents. The alert came in at six PM, leading to a swift response from emergency services to prevent the flames from reaching nearby homes. Due to the fire’s proximity to several urbanisations, level one of the Special Plan against Forest Fires was activated.

The fire originated in a wooded area and rapidly spread through dry vegetation. Emergency teams deployed both aerial and significant ground resources, including firefighters from Torrevieja and Almoradí. By eight forty PM, aerial support was successfully withdrawn once stabilisation was achieved.

Approximately fifty residents from the Loira property community were evacuated as a precaution. In total, the firefighting operation included two command units, various fire engines, firefighters, civil protection teams, emergency services, and local police. The situation was handled efficiently, and fortunately, there were no reported injuries or material damage.

Additionally, the Red Cross activated their Basic Emergency Response Team in Orihuela to set up a provisional shelter if needed due to the fire’s proximity to residential areas in Orihuela Costa. The quick response from local authorities helped to contain the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
