Cartagena has commemorably secured ten Blue Flags this summer, further establishing itself as the municipality with the most awards in the Region of Murcia, having gained two more compared to last year. The total of thirty six Blue Flags awarded this year includes twenty nine for beaches and seven for marinas, a pleasing increase from the previous season.

A key highlight reveals that for the first time, every coastal regional park now boasts beaches recognised with Blue Flags. Beaches receiving this accolade include Calnegre from the Calblanque Regional Park, as well as beaches Las Salinas and Torre Derribada, which are part of the Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro Regional Park.

Juan Francisco Martínez, director of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia, acknowledged that this achievement signifies a significant leap forward for sustainable tourism in the area, suggesting that the regional park serves as the highest category of protective designation available.

Following Cartagena’s lead, Águilas stands in second place with nine Blue Flags, while Mazarrón has secured seven. The overall total across Spain has reached seven hundred forty nine Blue Flags, increasing by two from last year, of which six hundred forty two are for beaches and one hundred one for marinas.
