68 Dead, 107 Injured with 21 in intensive care after two high speed trains collide in Toldeo
Two passenger trains have collided near the station at Urda, in Toledo province, prompting a major emergency response and disrupting high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalucía.
The collision happened at around nine o’clock this morning, when one train struck another from behind.
Two carriages reportedly fell down an embankment, and emergency crews were sent to rescue passengers who may have been trapped.
Firefighters, Civil Protection teams, three medical helicopters and two intensive-care ambulances were deployed to the scene.
The cause of the collision has not yet been established.
Adif has suspended high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalucía in both directions while emergency operations continue.
