Torrevieja’s governing board has approved the basic and construction project for a new Local Police station in the town centre. The facility will be located at 17 Joaquín Chapaprieta Street, between Ramón Gallud and Caballero de Rodas. The work has an estimated completion time of four months and a base budget of €785,105.

Local government secretary Federico Alarcón said the station would strengthen public safety and increase preventive police presence in an area with high levels of pedestrian traffic, commercial activity and visitor numbers. Its location is intended to improve coverage of the town centre, port and seafront, which remain busy throughout the year.

The council has defended the decision to rent the premises, at an estimated cost of almost €300,000 until 2032, saying its strategic location has been supported by municipal technical reports and the Local Police. The 735.65-square-metre building is considered to be in good condition, so the work will focus on reorganising and adapting the interior, renewing services and installing operational equipment.

The project includes new offices, public-facing areas, changing rooms, electrical and lighting systems, plumbing, heating, ventilation, communications networks, access controls, CCTV and fire protection. The council says the new station will help reorganise police resources, provide more space at the main facilities and support the force’s expanding workforce.
