More than 1,000 people connected to Torrevieja’s community groups gathered at the Parque de la Estación on Sunday for a new edition of the city’s Associations’ Festival. Representatives and members of organisations from different parts of Spain and the wider world shared the event, highlighting Torrevieja’s cultural diversity.

Charities, non-governmental organisations and other social groups also took part. The festival gave municipal representatives the opportunity to meet the organisations, hear their concerns and learn more about their work supporting integration, solidarity and community life.

Each association brought food and drink to share, while the group Fraguel Pop provided live music. Volunteers also joined the entertainment, including Alcides Almeida from the Cape Verdean Association, who opened the evening with African rhythms. The non-governmental organisation Nueva Fraternidad ran a solidarity bar.

Music and dancing continued past midnight, creating a shared celebration for people of different backgrounds and ages. The event once again showed the importance of Torrevieja’s community groups, which work throughout the year to support residents, preserve traditions and create opportunities for people to meet.
