More than 4,000 people have gathered in Constitution Square, Torrevieja, to show their support for Ceuta and defend its status as a Spanish city. The demonstration featured Spanish and Ceutan flags, while attendees chanted slogans including “Ceuta is Spanish” and criticised the national government.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón attended the event and read a manifesto signed by Ceuta’s president, Juan Jesús Vivas. The document called for stronger state resources in Ceuta, improved border control, extraordinary funding and support for public services, businesses, self-employed people and workers.
The manifesto described the situation facing Ceuta as a national and European responsibility. It also recognised the work of security forces, armed forces, healthcare workers, social services, public employees, humanitarian organisations and volunteers, while rejecting hatred, racism and confrontation.
