Orihuela Council has banned vehicles from a roughly 250-metre stretch of Calle Mira, continuing into Calle Hita, in Orihuela Costa. The narrow road has been used as a two-way shortcut between La Zenia shopping centre and the weekly market on Avenida Nicolás de Bussy, including by traders’ lorries.

Residents living beside the route have complained about the traffic and its safety risks. The road crosses a green area, is not listed as a public road in the General Plan and appears to enter the public waterway protection zone beside the Cañada de las Estacas ravine. Falling material from the ravine’s sides has affected vehicles in recent months.

Residents installed unauthorised bollards at both ends of the route, but the council ordered their removal because they were not municipal and were difficult to see in poor lighting. The council has instead installed no-entry signs. Local drivers have warned that the restriction could be widely ignored without enforcement, highlighting wider concerns about poorly connected roads and inconsistent urban planning across Orihuela Costa.
