Seven migrants, believed to be Algerian men, have reached Santa Pola del Este beach in Alicante by boat. The vessel, measuring around three metres and fitted with an outboard motor, came ashore at 12.28pm on Sunday, 30 August, while the urban beach was crowded with swimmers.
The seven occupants left the boat and fled on foot along the seafront towards Santa Pola town centre. No incidents involving bathers have been reported, although those on the beach witnessed the arrival from close to the shore.
Police have launched the usual search and location operation across the town and its access roads. Sources have said that at least one of the arrivals may be under eighteen and that they may be of Algerian origin, but their identities and circumstances are still awaiting confirmation from the relevant services.
