Orihuela’s Coastal Department has completed a series of emergency and environmental drills at locations along the municipality’s coastline. The exercises were held on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August to improve emergency response, assess available resources and test operational plans and communication systems.

Safety, rescue and first-aid scenarios were recreated on Tuesday at Cala Capitán, La Glea, Cala Estaca, Punta Prima, Mil Palmeras, Barranco Rubio, Aguamarina and La Caleta. The exercise tested how quickly services could respond and how effectively they could coordinate during an emergency.

Environmental drills took place on Wednesday in Barranco Rubio, Aguamarina and La Caleta. They assessed procedures for detecting, reporting, coordinating and managing potential environmental incidents.

Participants included officers from Orihuela Local Police assigned to the Coastal Detachment, Civil Protection staff, lifeguards and municipal technical services. The council said the exercises support prevention, planning and operational readiness, helping protect residents, visitors, beaches and natural areas.
