The Spanish National Police, working with the Customs Surveillance Service, have dismantled a people-smuggling network operating along the coast of the Region of Murcia. The investigation began after a speedboat carrying migrants reached the coast of Águilas.
Authorities say the network brought migrants from Algeria into the region illegally using boats fitted with high-powered engines. Officers arrested several alleged members of the group after a maritime pursuit.
The suspects reportedly abandoned their passengers in open water after realising they had been discovered. The operation involved the Spanish National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service.
