A British woman in her seventies has died after a parasailing accident in Benidorm, Alicante. A 47-year-old British man, also British, has suffered multiple injuries and has been taken to hospital.
Emergency services received the first call at 6.41pm on Tuesday after the accident near the Cola del Caballo mountain, in the direction of Tío Ximo cove. The Guardia Civil received a report at 6.50pm.
A gust of wind reportedly broke the tow line while the woman was parasailing, sending the parachute out of control and causing her to hit rocks. She was found in cardiac arrest. Medical teams carried out advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and restored her heartbeat, but she had multiple traumatic injuries and later died in hospital.
The emergency response included two SAMU ambulances and a basic life-support unit. The Guardia Civil has begun investigating the circumstances of the accident.
