Police in Elche, Alicante, have carried out the precautionary sealing of more than 7,500 bottles of alcoholic drinks at two shops. Officers allegedly detected the sale of alcohol to people under 18, which is prohibited under Valencian public health legislation.
The operation formed part of inspections carried out during the town’s patron saint celebrations. The campaign focused on protecting minors and preventing the sale or supply of alcohol to under-eighteens.
Police have reported the alleged breaches to the relevant sanctioning authority under Law 10/2014 on public health in the Valencian Community. The law requires sellers to check a buyer’s age and request identification when there is any doubt.
Selling or supplying alcoholic drinks to under-18s is considered a serious offence. Depending on the circumstances, fines can range from €15,000 to €60,000.
