Orihuela City Council has confirmed that more children’s parks are set to be renovated as part of its ongoing programme to improve play areas across the municipality.

The latest project has been completed in Orihuela Costa, where crews replaced around 260 square metres of rubber safety flooring in the park on Calle Lago Bañolas in the Garbanzuelo urbanisation. Existing play equipment and street furniture were also repaired and refurbished. The work was carried out by the Department of Infrastructure in collaboration with the Coast Department.

Similar improvements have recently been completed in El Mudamiento, where the playground next to the church received new safety surfacing, repaired equipment and a freshly painted perimeter fence. A third park in Raiguero de Bonanza is due to be upgraded in the coming days.

Infrastructure councillor Víctor Valverde said many playgrounds require updating after years of use. So far, 22 play areas have been improved, with 29 more scheduled once the current tender process is complete. Further projects are being planned for Las Espeñetas and Severo Ochoa parks, and a new play area is proposed for El Escorratel through an agreement with LABORA.
