Rojales Town Hall has launched a tender for major refurbishment works at the Municipal Market, with a base budget of 486,955 euros. The project, titled “Roof Replacement and Interior Renovation of the Municipal Market”, aims to resolve long-standing structural issues and modernise the building.

Constructed in the early 1990s and opened in 1993, the market has experienced persistent water leaks from its metal roof. The main intervention will see a new pitched metal roof installed to improve waterproofing and thermal insulation. The existing brick façade, aluminium frames and safety glass will be retained.

Inside, the market will undergo a significant facelift. Old counters, shutters, ceilings and lighting will be removed, with new porcelain flooring, suspended ceilings and LED lighting installed. Around 40% of the total budget, approximately 207,000 euros, has been allocated to the interior upgrade. The 700-square-metre market houses 28 stalls, although many are currently closed.

Works will also affect the semi-basement garage, including a new concrete floor, fire safety doors and improved ventilation. The project is expected to last four months, with temporary units provided to allow traders to continue operating during the refurbishment.
