Rojales Local Police have referred a driver to the courts after he allegedly committed an offence against road safety by recording more than 1 mg per litre of breath alcohol. The incident happened last week during a preventive checkpoint to verify vehicles and documentation.

Officers observed a car entering Avenida Costa Azul in the wrong direction and stopped the driver. While dealing with the traffic offence, police noticed clear signs that he may have been under the influence of alcohol. A breath test confirmed a reading above 1 mg/l, well over the legal limit, and the vehicle was immobilised.

During the same operation, another driver was reported administratively after registering readings of 0.34 mg/l and 0.31 mg/l, exceeding the permitted limit. In that case, the vehicle remained immobilised until an authorised person could take charge of it.

Rojales Local Police say these preventive controls are designed to detect offences and risky behaviour, prevent accidents and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. They stress that drink-driving poses a serious danger and insist the only safe level at the wheel is 0.0.
