Torrevieja University Hospital has reduced waiting times for priority one surgery by 92.4%, cutting the average delay from 79 days in June 2023 to just six days in June 2026. The figure makes it the fastest hospital in the Valencian Community for the most urgent planned operations.

Overall surgical waiting times have also improved. As of 30 June 2026, the average delay stands at 45 days, compared with 68 days three years earlier – a reduction of 33.8%, placing the department below the regional average.

Other clinical priorities have shown similar progress. Priority two cases have fallen from 30 to 21 days, a 30% reduction, while priority three cases have dropped from 69 to 46 days, down 33.3%. Under Royal Decree 605/2003, maximum recommended waits are 30 days for priority one, 90 days for priority two and longer, clinically acceptable delays for priority three.

Health officials say the hospital’s performance reflects a strategy focused on patients with the greatest clinical need and stronger surgical activity. However, experts note that official waiting time data can vary depending on when a case is formally recorded, meaning some earlier stages of a patient’s journey may not be included in published figures.
