Torrevieja’s mayor, Eduardo Dolón, has missed his latest deadline for returning the town’s funfair to its traditional site in the port area. Speaking on 22 June, he said the attractions would be back by mid-July, even suggesting a reopening around the feast of the Virgen del Carmen. That target has not been met.

The delay has been blamed on the scale of the port redevelopment works and setbacks in obtaining final permits. Authorisation from the Generalitat to open the new access road to Marina Salinas was issued later than expected, and high temperatures have also slowed paving and reurbanisation works. The project is being carried out by Abala, part of Grupo Hozono Global.

More than 80 small fairground businesses have been operating from Antonio Soria Park since summer 2023, when redevelopment of the seafront began. While the temporary site offers parking and improved safety conditions, traders say year-round business has been difficult and they are keen to return to a fully serviced seafront location.

Sources suggest the council would like the fair to begin operating at the new site in September, although there has been no official confirmation. Meanwhile, fair operators face uncertainty over whether they can open during this weekend’s Low Festival, as current safety authorisations may not allow both events to run simultaneously.
