Three men have been arrested after the Guardia Civil found more than 11.5 kilos of methamphetamine in the boot of a car stopped in Pilar de la Horadada.
The vehicle was intercepted during a preventive operation on the AP-7 carried out by officers from the Citizen Security Unit in Torrevieja. Police said the car was travelling at high speed as the checkpoint was about to finish. Officers also noticed unusual movements inside the vehicle and said the driver was initially reluctant to follow instructions.
A search of the car uncovered several bags containing thousands of coloured tablets. Subsequent analysis confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Officers also seized cash which the occupants were unable to justify.
The three suspects, aged 34, 26 and 26, have been charged with an alleged offence against public health relating to drug trafficking. They have been brought before the Orihuela Court, which will continue the judicial proceedings.
