A man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old Algerian man in Torrevieja has been released without bail by court order. The 49-year-old suspect had been identified as one of two men who arrived on a motorcycle at the scene in Calle Bergantín, where the victim was shot in the entrance of his home in April.

The investigating judge revoked his pre-trial detention on 1 June after new evidence weakened the case against him. A key witness later told the court they had not seen the rider’s face and had assumed his identity. CCTV footage from a nearby amusement arcade also supported the suspect’s alibi.

Despite his release, the man remains under investigation for alleged homicide. He has been banned from leaving Spain, must surrender his passport and report to court monthly.

The Guardia Civil has requested and obtained a European arrest warrant for the suspect’s brother, who is believed to have carried out the shooting and may be hiding in Belgium. Investigators say the killing followed a long-running feud between two families, which had previously led to another shooting and multiple complaints.
