Mundomar Benidorm has announced the birth of two Harris’s hawk chicks, the first successful breeding of the species at the park. The arrival comes as the wildlife centre marks its 30th anniversary.
The chicks have been named Sahara and Dakar by the team of keepers and veterinarians. Their parents, Jalisco and Arizona, arrived at the Benidorm park in 2021 when they were just a month old.
After several years under specialist care, the pair have now raised their first clutch successfully. Park officials said the birth reflects the success of their animal welfare and care programmes, noting that reproduction under human care only occurs when medical and environmental conditions are optimal.
Sahara and Dakar are now eight weeks old and in good health. They have developed their full plumage and have begun exploring outside the nest, while both parents share feeding and protection duties — a cooperative behaviour typical of Harris’s hawks.
