Torrevieja’s Local Government Board has approved the tender process for the construction of a new Sea and Salt Museum and a new auditorium for the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest. The projects involve a total investment of €29,186,968 and mark a major step in the comprehensive restoration of the historic Eras de la Sal complex. Contracts will be open to bids for 35 days, with works expected to start in November if no appeals are lodged.

The new open-air auditorium will seat 1,502 people, around 300 more than the previous venue. Designed to host cultural events throughout the year, it will also serve as a public viewpoint over Torrevieja Bay. The scheme includes improved accessibility, upgraded technical facilities and new rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms and support areas beneath the seating.

The Sea and Salt Museum will become the centrepiece of the site’s heritage revival. Plans include the restoration of the former Salt Administration House, the extension of the historic loading structure and the creation of nine exhibition spaces covering 1,305 square metres. The museum will highlight Torrevieja’s maritime history and its long-standing salt industry.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón has said the contest will remain in its historic location, but with completely modernised facilities. The overall project will also deliver new pedestrian routes and landscaped public spaces, strengthening the cultural and tourist appeal of the Eras de la Sal.
