A post-mortem examination has ruled out any criminal involvement in the death of a 56-year-old woman found at her home in Almoradí on Monday night. Her body was discovered at around 11pm, prompting an investigation by the Guardia Civil.

Officers initially detained her 61-year-old husband while they examined the circumstances of her death. The case was briefly considered as a possible gender-based violence incident, although investigators kept all lines of enquiry open.

According to the Guardia Civil, the autopsy concluded that the woman died of natural causes. As a result, she suffered a fall which caused injuries observed on her body, but these were not serious. Investigators have confirmed there is no evidence of third-party involvement.

The husband has since been released. The investigation was led in its early stages by specialist officers from the Women and Minors Unit and the Criminalistics Laboratory in Alicante. Once completed, the case file will be sent to the courts in Orihuela.
