Two leading business associations in Torrevieja have publicly thanked the town’s Local Police for their handling of recent incidents linked to illegal street selling on the seafront. APYMECO and the Association of Hospitality Businesses of Torrevieja and the surrounding area have praised officers for their professionalism, composure and firmness during tense situations.

Both organisations said the police response deserved the backing of the wider community, particularly given the challenges of enforcing the law in high-pressure circumstances. They stressed the importance of acting with responsibility and proportionality while safeguarding public order.

The associations warned that illegal selling represents unfair competition for hundreds of small businesses and self-employed traders who operate legally, pay taxes and create stable employment. They argue that allowing unlawful trading undermines a fair and sustainable local economy.

APYMECO and the hospitality association have also voiced support for officers who have faced tension and even violence in the course of their duties. They reaffirmed their commitment to working with public authorities and security forces to promote a safe, modern and law-abiding Torrevieja where businesses can compete on equal terms.
