No one has been seriously injured following a dramatic road traffic collision on the N-332 in La Mata on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at around 2pm when, for reasons still under investigation, a car crossed the central reservation into the opposite carriageway and collided front-side with a van travelling correctly in the other direction. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and initially raised fears that people could be trapped.

Several witnesses alerted the 112 Emergency Coordination Centre. Local Police patrols from Torrevieja attended to control traffic and secure the area, while two Basic Life Support ambulances assessed those involved.

Despite the force of the collision, none of the occupants suffered serious injuries. Paramedics treated them at the scene for anxiety following the shock of the crash. Traffic was temporarily delayed while the damaged vehicles were removed and the road cleared. Police investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
