Argentina’s community in Torrevieja has celebrated in style after the national team secured a place in the 2026 World Cup final with a victory over England. The result, in a fixture that still carries strong emotions beyond football, prompted jubilant scenes in the town centre.
Hundreds of supporters gathered around Waldo Calero and Castelar squares, filling the heart of the town with flags, chants and car horns. The spontaneous celebration also spread to the small roundabout controlling access to the leisure centre.
The gathering continued well past midnight and led to significant delays for drivers leaving the Paseo del Mar car park. Local police attended and worked to contain the crowds and ease congestion.
Access to the leisure centre car park is known for congestion even outside major events, but the scale of the celebrations intensified traffic problems in the area.
