Firefighters have rescued two 20-year-olds who became lost and stranded in the Sierra de Orihuela, in Alicante province.
The alarm was raised at 11.48pm on Saturday. The Provincial Fire Consortium said the operation continued until 6.02am on Sunday, when the pair were finally brought down to safety.
Rescuers made visual contact with the young man and woman before working out the safest way to reach them. The area, near Cruz de la Muela, is difficult to access, so crews set up specialist equipment and lowered them down via a ferrata route to the foot of the mountain.
The Special Rescue Group took part in the operation. Neither of the young people was injured and both were able to return home by their own means, without requiring medical attention.
