Torrevieja Council has received a €206,000 grant from the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (Ivace), funded by the European Regional Development Fund (Feder), to develop a new 3,700-metre cycle network across the town.

The route will run from Avenida Delfina Viudes, starting at Ronda Ricardo Lafuente Aguado, to the junction with Avenida Monge y Bielsa near the Sports City. It will continue along Avenida de la Mancha and Calle Gabriela Mistral, reaching the area around Colegio Ciudad del Mar.

Plans include bidirectional and segregated cycle lanes, improved crossings, accessible ramps, updated signage and specific parking points across the municipality. Safety measures such as recycled rubber separators and electronic signalling will be installed at key junctions, and traffic-calming measures are planned near the school.

The council says the project will better connect key areas of the town, including the Sports City and the public school, encouraging cycling and scooter use instead of private cars. It estimates annual energy savings of 50.88 tonnes of oil equivalent and a yearly reduction of nearly 184,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.
