A fire in the early hours of Tuesday has caused significant material damage at a meat warehouse in Santa Pola, according to the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium.
The alarm was raised at 2.59am at an industrial unit on Calle Marmolistas, in the In-Dos Industrial Estate. The fire started in the cold storage area, generating a large amount of smoke and causing extensive damage inside the building. Part of the roof collapsed during the incident.
Firefighters worked through the night to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the warehouse. The fire was declared stabilised at 6.42am, although crews remained at the scene later in the morning.
Appliances from fire stations in Elche, Crevillente, Torrevieja and San Vicente took part in the operation. The full extent of the damage and the cause of the fire have not yet been confirmed. No injuries have been reported.
