Firefighters in Valencia have responded to 25 vegetation and forest fires across the province between 9am and 8pm on Tuesday, as a heatwave continues to raise the risk of wildfires.
The Provincial Fire Consortium said many of the incidents involved scrubland, farmland and vacant plots with vegetation. Two fires were sparked by lightning strikes during afternoon storms in inland areas, affecting La Yesa and Chera. The blaze in Chera has now been extinguished, while crews remain at La Yesa, where the situation is said to be improving.
Due to extreme wildfire risk forecasts this week, the consortium has activated a special reinforcement plan. The usual deployment of 175 personnel has been increased by an additional 70 firefighters during daytime hours, alongside extra forest brigades, control room staff and command officers.
Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant during the period of high temperatures and heightened fire danger.
