The second heatwave of the summer is continuing across the province of Valencia, with an orange weather alert in place for extreme temperatures.
Forecasters say the episode will last at least three days, with thermometers once again climbing above 40C in parts of the province. Many towns are expected to see highs of around 37C, while large areas of Valencia could reach between 39C and 40C. The most intense heat is forecast in the south, where temperatures may range from 42C to 44C.
The day is set to begin with clear skies and sunshine along the coast and inland. However, cloud is expected to build in the interior later, with a chance of scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms.
Residents are being urged to avoid direct sun during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of fluids and take extra care with vulnerable groups, including older people, children and those with chronic health conditions.
