A man has died after being pulled unconscious from the water at Acequión beach in Torrevieja on Friday morning. The Valencian Emergency Information and Coordination Centre said it received an alert at 10am reporting that a man had been taken from the sea unconscious.

A basic life support ambulance team carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the shore. When a SAMU doctor arrived, there were no signs of life and the man was pronounced dead. Police sources have indicated the victim was believed to be aged between 70 and 80, although his exact age has not been confirmed.

The cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem examination. The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation. Authorities have also reiterated water safety advice, warning that many adult drownings occur when people swim alone, making rescue more difficult.

Acequión is a popular urban beach within Torrevieja’s port, known for its calm, shallow waters and family atmosphere. Despite generally low sea risk, the area attracts thousands of visitors each summer, and emergencies can still occur.
