Torrevieja Council has presented the implementation timetable for its new Municipal Urban Transport Service, marking what officials describe as the most significant transformation of the town’s public transport in decades. The phased plan will culminate in 2027 with a larger, more efficient and more sustainable network.

The first phase will begin on 27 July 2026, when the new network comes into operation with a provisional fleet of 32 low-emission buses. The model will include 12 lines — nine daytime and three night services — with improved frequencies, expanded coverage in neighbourhoods and urbanisations, and better connections to the University Hospital, health centres, schools, beaches, markets and La Mata.

A second phase in October 2026 will introduce new travel cards and season tickets, traffic light priority systems to improve punctuality, and preparations for the arrival of electric vehicles. Existing tickets will remain valid until the end of 2026.

Between March and June 2027, the final fleet of 32 buses will be fully operational, made up of 6 electric and 26 hybrid vehicles — almost doubling capacity from the current 17 vehicles. The service will also introduce real-time passenger information, mobile ticket validation and contactless bank card payments, alongside new depots and charging infrastructure.
