The Guardia Civil has seized a shipment of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, inside a vehicle at the Port of Dénia in Alicante. Officers discovered 168 boxes containing 1,008 bottles, each weighing 640 grams, with an estimated total value of more than 35,000 euros.

The operation was carried out during a routine inspection aimed at preventing the trafficking of substances and ensuring public safety. The incident took place in May, when officers from the Fiscal and Border Unit in Dénia identified a van preparing to board a ferry to the Balearic Islands.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, was unable to provide documentation to prove the origin of the goods or justify their transport. Officers seized the shipment and began proceedings for an alleged breach of the Special Taxes Law.

The confiscated goods have been placed at the disposal of Alicante Customs and Excise. Investigations are continuing to determine the origin of the product, and further action has not been ruled out.
