A 66-year-old woman has died after collapsing on Parazuelos beach in Cañada Gallego, in the municipality of Mazarrón, according to the regional emergency coordination centre.
The 1-1-2 service received several calls at 11.40am on Tuesday from bathers who reported that a woman had been found unconscious and in cardiac arrest at the water’s edge. Those at the scene began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used a semi-automatic defibrillator from a nearby campsite.
Lifeguards and Civil Protection volunteers from Mazarrón and Lorca were dispatched, along with a Mobile Emergency Unit staffed by paramedics from the 061 Urgencies and Emergencies Service. Despite prolonged resuscitation attempts, the woman could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details about the circumstances of the incident have been released.
