An 80-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the sea at El Pedrucho beach, on the Mediterranean side of La Manga in the municipality of San Javier.
Emergency services were alerted at 12.50pm on Tuesday after several calls reported that beach users had pulled a man from the water who needed urgent medical assistance. According to the Murcia regional emergency coordination centre, the man was semi-conscious when he was brought ashore.
Lifeguards and healthcare staff from San Javier’s beach surveillance service responded, along with a Mobile Emergency Unit from the 061 emergency health service. Crews stabilised the patient on the sand before transferring him in an adapted chair to an ambulance for transport to Santa Lucía University General Hospital in Cartagena.
