Torrevieja City Council has approved the initial draft of an ordinance regulating fares for the town’s new municipal urban bus service. The measure was backed by the PP and Vox, while PSOE and Sueña Torrevieja abstained. It marks one of the final administrative steps before the new public transport model comes into operation.

The new system introduces a broader and more socially focused fare structure, tailored to residents, young people, older passengers, families, unemployed people and visitors. A single ticket will cost 1.35 euros. Multi-journey passes will offer 10 trips for 9 euros or 20 trips for 18 euros, reducing the cost per journey to 0.90 euros.

A special fare of 0.65 euros per trip will apply to under-26s, large families and the long-term unemployed. Frequent users will be able to buy a 30-day unlimited travel pass for 38 euros. A Tourist Card will also be available, costing 8 euros for three days or 16 euros for seven days.

The most socially focused option is the free Bono Oro pass, available to residents over 65, pensioners and people with a disability of 33% or more, subject to registration and eligibility requirements. The ordinance will now go out to public consultation before returning to the council chamber for final approval.
